Class of 2019

Rene Scott Chavez

Rene currently serves as Scholastics Committee Chair in the Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity and as a Student Council Class Liaison. He is always looking to improve as a leader and often achieves this by finding inspiration in others and partaking in various extracurricular activities. During the 2017 to 2018 academic year, he will continue his growth as a leader by serving as President of The Rho Chi Society. Rene seeks to have a positive impact on others by promoting academic excellence, leadership, and community service at the DKICP.  

Kaylee Hoang

Kaylee’s passion is to become a type of leader who inspire others. Entering pharmacy school, her first position was for the National Community Pharmacist Association (NCPA) as a P1 Liaison. Kaylee's early involvement in the organization peaked her interest in leading fellow colleagues to join and participate in NCPA. She will serve as President of NCPA for 2017-2018 academic year. She currently serves as the Logistic Chair of the DKICP Health Fair committee, Public information specialist for The A.L.O.H.A Project, NCPA President-Elect, and Webmaster for Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc. Kaylee believes that true leaders are ones who guide others to success. Ensuring that everyone is performing at their best through all challenges and obstacles that many may face.

Nicholas Tsoi

Nicholas finds great satisfaction through educating individuals throughout the community. His passion for teaching has allowed Nicholas to serve on APhA-ASP’s executive board as a Generation Rx co-chair, and has been an active member of the Tobacco Prevention Project. He also serves as a representative for the Class of 2019 as a chair on the Assessment Committee. He believes that good communication is a foundational aspect of being an excellent leader, and often encourages others to hone this skill. Nicholas is driven by the compassion and leadership of others, and hopes to be an influence to his peers.

Nancy Wong

Nancy will serve as President for HSSHP and Health Screenings Chair for the 9th Annual DKICP Health Fair for the 2017-2018 academic school year. She currently serves as the Professional Development Co-Chair for HSSHP, Outreach Coordinator for The A.L.O.H.A. Project, Secretary for the Class of 2019, and Scholarship Chair for the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Nancy believes that leadership is about fostering those around you and learning from them.

Faith Hicks

Faith aspires to be a leader that is able to educate and motivate her peers, as well as those individuals within the community. Her experience on and off campus has allowed her the experience to become a quality leader in pharmacy. On campus, she serves as the Class of 2019 Student Council Vice President and the Head Chair of the Blue Zones Project Advisory Committee. Off campus, she puts her efforts into volunteering for the Hui Mālama Ola Nā ‘Ōiwi organization that provides workshops, support groups and various services to the people of the Hilo community. Faith strongly believes that the best leaders are the ones who can affect change and impact lives. For her, becoming a member of Phi Lambda Sigma will allow her to help mold the minds and leadership skills of our future pharmacists.

Gurinder Kaur

Gurinder's passion to help others and be able to initiate a positive change within our community and campus has lead her to pursue numerous leadership roles at DKICP. She has served as the Community Service Committee Co-Chair for two consecutive years for the Kappa Psi
Pharmaceutical Fraternity. She currently serves as the Secretary for Hawaii Student Society of Health-Systems Pharmacy (HSSHP) and Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). Gurinder has also served as the College of Pharmacy Senator from 2016-2017 for our student government, University of Hawaii at Hilo Student Association (UHHSA), along with being the Chair for the UH Hilo Ambassador Program and Teaching in Excellence Award Committee. She hopes to inspire and empower others to become effective leaders by demonstrating perseverance, positivity, and humility.

Shannon Trinh

As current Community Outreach Chair for The Pacific Islander Mobile Screening Clinic (PIMSC), Shannon enjoys being able to learn about diversity in the local community while trying to better the health of the under-served population on the Big Island. She also served as Historian of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Inc. from 2016-2017 and Class of 2019 Liaison in the Spring 2016 semester. Shannon is in her third year of pharmacy school and hopes to further encourage student involvement in community health screenings and research through The PIMSC. She hopes to utilize her leadership experience to not only give back to the profession of pharmacy one day, but to also inspire passion in others to better the health of the community around them. She believes that leadership is a life-long learning process, and within every experience holds a valuable opportunity for growth.

Veronica Wong

Veronica’s experience in pharmacy leadership mainly comes from her involvement in APhA-ASP’s Fundraising Chair as well as current Secretary. In addition, she is an active member in Phi Delta Chi and the Rho Chi Society. She strongly believes that the best leaders are among those who are inspired to guide others become leaders themselves. Therefore, she looks forward to being a part of Phi Lambda Sigma to help develop a larger leadership community at DKICP.
